I survived the road to Hana

Before we drove to Hana, I was noticing all these t-shirts that said “I survived the road to Hana” – and separately, both Sam and I had the same thought: “hmm… that’s a funny way to put it.” Whenever we talked about this “tourist attraction” to anyone, they all seemed to downplay it. They said – yeah, it’s kind of a long trip, plan for a full day, the road is a little winding. A little? Wow. Maybe I when I tell stories of our adventures I go over the top with my descriptions, but still, I’d never think to describe that road as a “little” winding. Quite simply, the road was terrifying. Now I understand why the t-shirts all say “I survived the road to Hana” –...

One of many reasons for my weight gain over vacation

Needed a good laugh too

Things are a wee bit rocky at the moment. Got a series of not so great news and am kinda bummed out right now. We were watching TV and saw one of those “Ally.com” ads. Those are so awesome. Just the laugh I was needing. Have you seen these? The kids in them are AWESOME. I love their expression. We were wondering if they thought it was real – some of their expressions look so awesome, it’s almost hard to believe they’re that good at acting . But at the same time, if I pulled one of these stunts in my house, we wouldn’t get confused, frustrated expressions, we’d get an all-out tantrum. In fact, I’m pretty sure if it were my kids in the commercial, it would have an ending with that guy getting a black eye....

Easter Village – iPhone App for Kids

If you’re looking for some Easter themed fun for your iPhone, there’s a very cute app on the store right now that can fit that bill. Easter Village has two activities – catching rabbits, and art. When you catch a rabbit, you collect a carrot. Catch 10,000 carrots and you’ll get a real (not virtual!) handmade Easter card. They’re only giving out ten of these, so you’ll have to start catching rabbits quickly! Or if you’d like to create your own (virtual) card, you’ll be able to create and send that right from the app to your friends and family via email, facebook or twitter. I really like the graphics in the app, all created with clay, paper, wood and paint. Easter Village is created by Ru-ka-mi and published by Broken...

If little boys are made of frogs and snails and puppy dog tails, what are *squirrels* made of?

The other morning, before dropping Zach off at daycare, he asked me “what squirrels were made of.” The things is – he sometimes asks me questions like this when he already has an answer in his head. When I mentioned Zach’s question to my Facebook friends, my friend Jamie replied that when she asked her son the same question to see what he would say, he said “Skin and Fur” – but I know that wasn’t what was in Zach’s mind. I explained it was as if he expecting me to say that squirrels were made of chicken or something… To which Jamie gave me this reply: Speaking of chicken, Alex was eating a chicken nugget the other day and asked me what chicken nuggets were made of. I told him chicken of course and I...
