Word Cub may very well be the best educational game I have on my iPhone right now. Designed for the pre-reader, this game helps teach kids letters and phonics. There are three mini-games; Letter Match, Word Discovery, and Sound Match. In Letter Match, the kids are shown a word and asked to pick a particular letter. The letter can be anywhere in the word. In Word Discovery, a word is shown and then each sound in the word is highlighted, the child can swipe their finger across the word to hear it all put together and see how the sounds build the word they know. Sound Match is similar to Letter Match, but instead of asking the child to pick a letter, the letter-sound is given and the child has to pick the letter that corresponds with the sound.
Each game is timed and the goal is to get as many as you can within the timeframe – but no matter how they do, they always win in the end and get to pop bubbles of various shapes to the sound of a cheering crowd. (The better they do – the more bubbles they get to pop)

Zach loved playing this game. He has a pretty good grasp on his letters already, but this was a great way to reinforce what he already knows and push him along to getting ready to read. The game is fantastic and if you have a child that is just starting to learn letters or is a pre-reader, I highly recommend getting it! It’s really well done!
