Hip Hop Hustle!
My 24 Hour Fitness just started a new class for Tuesday nights: Hip Hop Hustle. I take the Zumba class on Thursday nights and have been loving it – so another dance-style aerobics class was definitely something I had to try. It was totally awesome. In fact, I may even like it better than Zumba, which is really saying something. I wear a Polar F7 Heart Rate monitor (HRM) when I exercise, and even when I run, I struggle to get it to read a 300 calorie burn. When I’ve gotten it to read 400 – I know I’ve really pushed it. Well, in Hip Hop Hustle, I didn’t even feel like I was working that hard. There’s definitely room to work harder, but with my workload recently, I just wasn’t up to more than coasting through the class. Even still, my HRM had me burning over 400 calories. That was with me not even feeling that tired after the class!! When I’m up to working harder, I wonder how high that calorie burn is going to be!
If you have access to a Hip Hop Hustle class, and you like dance-style aerobics, definitely check it out. I know that how much fun a class is can really be dependent on the instructor. So if you don’t like one class, try another one with a different instructor to see if you might like the class better. (That goes for Zumba classes too – which I still plan on going to on)
I just watched this on Youtube, Microsoft making a Zumba game – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qO813ht4kM
Do you think it would be worth it? I don’t know whether to buy this, or go for the DVDs. This looks like fun. What do you think?
Great post. I found it while searching other Hip Hop Hustle related sites. I just became an instructor and wanted to get the public opinion. Are you still going to those classes? What state are you/were you taking them?
I had been taking them in Utah. We’ve recently moved to California now though. My membership expires with 24 hour fitness in just a month, but I never bothered to transfer it here and probably won’t renew. I still really like the hip hop hustle classes. Overall, however, I usually ended up burning more calories during Zumba – but I think that’s because there was more activity in that class. I really liked the instructor for Hip Hop Hustle, but downtime in between sets would sometimes drag on. If she just had us moving non-stop, I probably would have burned as many if not more calories during the class as I did during a Zumba class.
I took some master Hip Hop Hustle classes and bought a huge set of DVDs – so I can do them at home (although I’m pretty bad at actually doing that) – once it warms up a little, I’m planning on just going back to jogging for exercise. In the meantime, unfortunately, I’m packing on the pounds!!!! Ugh. Life is too much to handle right now to make it to the gym.
